Abrasions or dark scuff marks
Another condition caused by aggressive riding is abrasion marks on the tire tread, often appearing as evenly spaced, similar-looking scrapes. This usually results from hard braking, which drags the tire across the road. On motorcycles with ABS, sudden heavy braking can create evenly spaced scuff marks around the tire due to the ABS system's rapid modulation of brake pressure. These marks are Not dangerous; they are simply acute wear, and as the tire continues to be used, the scuffed areas will gradually smooth out.
However, if the abrasion marks appear in a continuous line around the tire, it is usually caused by the Wheel spinning in place due to a sudden heavy throttle—commonly referred to as “wheel spin” or intentionally as “burning rubber.” These marks make the tire surface smooth and shiny. Repeating this often can lead to uneven wear or cause the tire to wear out faster than normal.
The preventive measure is to avoid sudden throttle or brake inputs. However, if these marks have already appeared, there's no need to worry, as they will naturally wear off after the tire has been used for some time.
