Confirming the performance of the new Pirelli Development tire model.
Based on the Superpole and Race 1 results.
In the first race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya 2022, during the superpole, the leading riders opted to use the new SC1 B0570 front tire, designed for short-distance races, paired with the SCQ rear tire launched earlier this year, resulting in satisfactory performance.
In Race 1, almost the entire grid opted to use the brand new SCX B0800 rear tire, which was chosen for riders to test at this track following the recent Magny-Cours race.
Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was one of the riders who chose to use the new Development tires both front and rear: the SC1 A067 for the front and the SCX B0800 for the rear. In this race, both tires were subjected to heavier stress than in other tracks due to heavy braking and aggressive acceleration. Bautista managed to take the lead from 5th on the grid and finished almost 9 seconds ahead of the second-place rider!
Furthermore, the time was faster than Jonathan Rea's best lap recorded at this track in 2021. Moreover, this new tire development also allowed many other riders to set new best lap times.
However, the test results still need to be evaluated before Race 2, which is about to begin in a few moments.
